History

The Northwesternaires Chorus has members from more than twenty-five different communities in Northwest Ohio. We are a chartered chorus in an international organization known as the Barbershop Harmony Society (formerly SPEBSQSA). Our chapter was founded in 1945 and belongs to the Johnny Appleseed District of the Society. Our district has approximately sixty choruses in Ohio, West Virginia and western Pennsylvania.

A few of our main activities throughout the year include participation in competition, staging an annual show, singing in churches, and singing at various other events in the community. We have been very successful in competitions, having consistently advanced from the division contest to the district level. At the district level we have placed in the top ten, with our best being third in 1982 and 1992. Our summer church sings provide inspiration to our members as well as our listeners. On a church sing Sunday morning we often sing in as many as 8 churches. We try to schedule two church sings each summer at different communities throughout the area.

We welcome visitors to our rehearsals on Monday evenings at Zion Lutheran Church in Defiance from 8 to 10 PM. We are an organization of amateur singers who are willing to go a little farther than some to always sing well and perform with our best effort. We are always looking for men who like to sing. Stop in and see us anytime.
